Inclination Estimates from Off-Axis GRB Afterglow Modelling

چکیده

For gravitational wave (GW) detected neutron star mergers, one of the leading candidates for electromagnetic (EM) counterparts is afterglow from an ultra-relativistic jet. Where this observed, it will likely be viewed off-axis, such as following GW170817/GRB 170817A. The temporal behaviour off-axis observed GRB can used to reveal lateral jet structure, and statistical model fits put constraints on various free-parameters. Amongst these parameters inclination system line sight. Along with GW detection, modelling provides best constraint line-of-sight improve estimates cosmological parameters, example, Hubble constant, GW-EM events. However, depends assumed structure and—often overlooked—the effects spreading. Here we show how inclusion spreading in models affect estimated

Off-axis Afterglow Emission from Jetted Gamma-ray Bursts

We calculate gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglow light curves from a relativistic jet as seen by observers at various viewing angles, vobs, relative to the jet axis. We describe three increasingly more realistic models and compare the resulting light curves. An observer at , where v0 is the initial jet opening angle, should see v ! v obs 0 a light curve very similar to that for an on-axis observer....

An Off-axis Model for Grb 031203

The low luminosity radio emission of the unusually faint GRB 031203 has been argued to support the idea of a class of intrinsically sub-energetic gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), currently comprising two members. While low energy GRBs probably exist, we show that the collective prompt and multiwavelength observations of the afterglow of GRB 031203 do not necessarily require a sub-energetic nature for t...

The GeV afterglow of GRB

We study the emission of the short/hard GRB 090510 at energies > 0.1 GeV as observed by the Large Area Telescope (LAT) onboard the Fermi satellite. The GeV flux rises in time as t 2 and decays as t −1.5 up to 200 s. The peak of the high energy flux is delayed by 0.2 s with respect to the main ∼MeV pulse detected by the Fermi Gamma Burst Monitor (GBM). Its energy spectrum is consistent with F (ν...

Testing GRB models with the strange afterglow of GRB 090102

We present the observations of the afterglow of gamma-ray burst GRB 090102. We use optical data taken by the TAROT, REM, GROND, Palomar and NOT telescopes, and X-ray data taken by the XRT instrument on board the Swift spacecraft. This event features an unusual light curve. In X-rays, it presents a very monotonic decrease with no hint of temporal break from 0.005 to 6 days after the burst. In op...

The afterglow onset for GRB 060418 and GRB 060607 A

Gamma-ray burst are thought to be produced by highly relativistic outflows. Although upper and lower limits for the outflow initial Lorentz factor Γ0 are available, observational efforts to derive a direct determination of Γ0 have so far failed or provided ambiguous results. As a matter of fact, the shape of the early-time afterglow light curve is strongly sensitive on Γ0 which determines the t...
